TSLA Stock: 7 Incredible Predictions from Tesla Motors Inc CEO Elon Musk

2. All Cars Will Be Fully Autonomous by 2025

Tesla Model S owners can already download a software update called “Auto Pilot” that will allow their cars to start driving themselves in a hands-free mode. Musk is now saying that Tesla cars should have “full autonomy” in “approximately three years.” But this could just be the beginning.

“All cars will go fully autonomous in the long-term,” Musk said during Tesla’s third-quarter earnings report. It will be “quite unusual to see cars that don’t have full autonomy” in a 15- to 20-year timeframe. (Source: “Tesla Third Quarter Earnings Transcript,” SeekingAlpha, November 22, 2015.)

3. Tesla Will Be Worth More than Apple

Investors have been clamoring over TSLA stock, sending shares soaring more than 1,000% since the company’s IPO a few years ago. But according to Elon Musk, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Last February, the tech visionary told investors Tesla could be worth $700 billion by 2025. On the company’s first-quarter conference call, Musk said Tesla is poised to go into “insane mode” over the next few years, as the company builds out its vehicle production. If he’s is right, the total market capitalization of TSLA stock could be as valuable as Apple is today. (Source: “Elon Musk’s ‘insane’ call: Tesla worth $700 billion,” CNN Money, February 12, 2015.)

4. Ground Transportation Will Go Fully Electric

Efficient batteries, according to Musk, will turn all fuel obsolete. In his view, the future of American ground transportation will be fully electric.

“We are going to look back on this era like we do on the steam engine,” he explained at the New York Times’ Dealbook Conference in 2013. “We should have a few of them [gasoline-powered vehicles] around in a museum somewhere, but not drive them.” (Source: “Elon Musk: The Future Is Fully Electric,” Inc., November 12, 2013.)

5. SpaceX Will Reach Mars by 2026

Elon Musk expects to put humanity on Mars within 10 years, more than a decade before NASA’s predicted arrival date on the red planet. In a 2014 interview with CNBC, Musk said that the 2026 arrival date was SpaceX’s best-case scenario. (Source: “Elon Musk Promises SpaceX Will Stay the Course for Mars,” NBC, June 17, 2014.)

“I’m hopeful that the first people could be taken to Mars in 10 to 12 years, I think it’s certainly possible for that to occur,” he said. “But the thing that matters long term is to have a self-sustaining city on Mars, to make life multi-planetary.”

6. Humanity Is on the Verge of a “Demographic Implosion”

“We should be concerned about demographic implosion,” Musk told CNN Money in September. “When the number of people [who are] retired is very high relative to the number of people who are net producers, the social safety net will not hold.” (Source: “Elon Musk predicts a population implosion,” CNN Money, September 10, 2015.)

“The full gravity of this situation is not well understood,” he continued, “but it will become a severe issue in the next few decades.”

7. Computers Will Keep Humans as Pets

In a March interview with scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson, Musk predicted robots will use humans as pets and treat them like “pet Labradors.” Once artificial intelligence (AI) systems reach a level of known as “superintelligence,” computers will become smarter than their human creators. When that happens, Musk believes AI systems could choose to breed docile humans and eradicate the violent ones. (Source: “Could robots turn people into PETS? Elon Musk claims artificial intelligence will treat humans like ‘labradors’,” Daily Mail, March 25, 2015.)
